Growth

Since 2022, we have cultivated various crops, including oats, wheat, barley, corn, cucumber, pepper, pumpkin, squash, tomato, melon, and eggplant. Concerns about water scarcity in Merced have led us to strengthen our resilience to drought. Our foremost priorities include cultivating drought-resistant crops to reduce water consumption, as well as integrating advanced agricultural technology (AgTech) to monitor and manage irrigation, soil moisture, and overall farming conditions. These initiatives will optimize water efficiency, enhance productivity, and ensure the delivery of high-quality yields.

By continuously improving farm practices and resource management, the UC Merced Experimental Smart Farm is committed to serving as a model of agricultural sustainability in California’s Central Valley.
